Four Colour Separations

Producing a four-colour separation is similar to a normal colour print except four files are produced which can be used on a four-colour printing press. The four standard process colours, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, are used by default but additional spot colours can be defined in a Bentley Advanced Map Finishing colour table.

If the default align/crop marks option is set in the Table Printing Control dialog at the time the print is produced, the four files automatically contain:

  • Required crop marks - shows the edge of the printed area for trimming

  • Location bulls-eyes - allows the printer to align the four plates

  • Plate names - identifies the colour each plate represents.

When an EPS paper type is used to produce separations, an extra EPS header file is produced. No crop or registration marks are placed in EPS separations.

Note: Bulls-eyes and plate names are placed outside the printed area. To leave room for them, the paper size must be larger than the printed area, as shown in the Output Directories. Since colour separation is an expensive process, each of the four files produced can be printed on an ordinary monochrome printer first to check that the scale is correct, the location bulls-eyes are visible, the correct paper size was selected, and the drawing contains the information required.
